The Great Barrier Reef and Scuba Diving

If you ever hear someone say they want to dive in Australia, they are usually referring to scuba diving at Queensland’s Great Barrier Reef. The Reef is the world’s largest and healthiest coral reef system.

The Great Barrier Reef is the only living structure on earth that can be seen from outer space. The Great Barrier Reef is made up of nearly 2900 individual reefs, 600 continental islands, and 300 coral cays. Therefore, it is the world’s largest single structure comprised of living organisms.

There is a wide range of dive sites along the Great Barrier Reef; there are calm, protected, shallow spots around the islands, perfect for first-timers. Also, there are gentle reef sites, rich in fish life and corals and the deeper sites on the outer reefs for those with some experience.

If you are a certified Scuba diver or a snorkeler, the Great Barrier Reef has some of the best ocean life in the world. If you never have Scuba dived before, the Great Barrier Reef offers some great places to learn to Scuba dive. The Great Barrier Reef is the world renowned for its amazing scuba diving locations. Bommies, coral reefs and an abundance of marine life stretch for the entire 2,300km length of the reef.

All sites are best reached by boat ranging from luxury cruisers to spectacular sailboats. For those visitors who have never put their head under the water, but want to see if they can enjoy snorkeling or diving, there are excellent one-day, first-time dive trips.

An experienced scuba diver, Beau Gumbert enjoys the thrill, challenge and reward of every scuba diving adventure.

Beau Gumbert – Crested Butte Snowboarding

Snowboarding was developed in the United States in the 60’s by Gordon Kosteroski and became a Winter Olympic Sport in 1998. Snowboarding is a recreational activity that involves descending a slope that is covered with snow while standing on a snowboard attached to a rider’s feet. The snowboard is attached using a special boot set into a mounted binding. Skateboarding, sledding, surfing, and skiing, inspired the development of snowboarding.

Crested Butte in Colorado is a feature of beauty and one of the most respected snowboarding locations in the country. It is considered an extreme location and is well known for the extreme ski and snowboard terrain. The laid back culture and friendliness of the town is what makes this one of the most attractive locations for snowboarders across the globe. Although Crested Butte is close to Aspen, Colorado, it has no ambitions or aspirations to be the “upscale” ski town with stuffy culture and atmosphere.

Crested Butte is one of Colorado’s ex-mining haunts and well worth a visit and has recently refurbished the entire base area of the mountain. It has gained a good reputation as a snowboard-friendly resort but is best known for is its extreme and hardcore terrain. Crested Butte easily offers some of the most challenging snowboarding in America. What you get is a serious mountain for serious riders, and not your typical dollar-hungry Colorado destination. If you like your mountain high with steeps, couloirs, trees, major off-piste in big bowls, then Crested Butte is for you.
